How much does one extra wedding guest really cost?
The guest list is one of the biggest decisions in wedding planning, but dividing the whole budget by the number of guests gives a misleading answer. A lot of the wedding is paid for once, whether sixty people attend or one hundred and sixty.
The whole budget is not a per-person price
Venue hire, photography, videography, music, outfits and rings do not usually become more expensive because one more person is in the room. They may have limits or package changes, but they are not a simple multiplication by guest count.
Catering and drinks are different. They are often priced per head, so an extra guest can affect the meal, welcome drinks, evening food and staffing. Favours, place settings and stationery may move with the list as well.
Think about the cost at the margin
The useful number is the amount added by the next guest, not the average cost of every part of the wedding. Start by identifying which lines actually move with the guest list. Then ask what your caterer, venue and other suppliers charge for that change.
The result will be different for every wedding. A dry-hire venue with separate furniture and bar costs behaves differently from an all-inclusive package. Treat a calculator estimate as a planning prompt, then replace it with the terms in your own quotes.
Daytime and evening guests are not always the same
An evening guest may not receive the ceremony meal or the full daytime experience. They might arrive for drinks, dancing and a later food service instead. That can make the additional cost lower, but it depends on what you have agreed with your suppliers.
Some evening guests receive a full evening spread, some receive drinks and snacks, and some couples choose not to provide anything extra. The right setting is the one that reflects your plan, not a hidden assumption that every evening guest costs a fixed fraction.

When you are close to a supplier limit or trying to make room for someone important, compare the real cost of the change with the value it has for you. That gives you a calmer conversation than arguing over a single average figure.
